Lynden Jacobi and Len McCarthy first met in 1978. Shortly after, Len moved to Nimbin, NSW where he began handcrafting an ancient Chinese propeller toy and ribbons-on-a-stick for the local kids and to sell at the markets. “I realized that many almost forgotten toy designs have been perfected by generations of use so as to achieve exquisite balance of form-function-method-material”. Lynden is an artist. They met up again and became partners in 1984 and continued with hand carved toys until they discovered some intriguing designs from the 1700s – 1800s. They bought their first bandsaw in 1991 and set up to make pop-up castles and surprise puzzles on the front verandah. The workshop has since changed and grown and moved a number of times but the production of their unique range of toys has continued ever since. At present, we hand craft our wooden toys in a small factory in Redhead, on the east coast of Australia. Our toys are made from beautiful recycled or found, fallen native or exotic timbers, others are cut from plantation pine, and some are laser cut from veneered MDF. All our hand crafts are made with non-toxic finishes. |
